Project Vientos de Agua (Winds of Water)
Currently, I am working on a suite of 12 medium sized format paintings (42”x60”) executed under the thematic memory of the Artist as a Young Man. It is made up of recollections of events that found their way in picto-narrative pieces, each describing a significant moment in the life of the artist.
Memory, as we know, acts in a 3-part sequence, albeit over an extended period of time. First, memory records the event. Memory then retrieves what happened in altered form (we have changed, not the event). Lastly, we interpret the altered story by making art that others read. This reading experience of the interpretation, begins a new cycle. While the artist owns the moment, the spectator steals it from him, or so it seems. The painting is just a facsimile.
